How Uniforms Can Protect One Against the Elements
Jan 21, 2022
Uniforms have been known for their ability to withstand rugged terrain and weather throughout history. This is partially what they are used for, but they are mainly intended to maintain uniformity and cohesion within military divisions. Knowing how uniforms can protect one against the elements is essential for every service member, as they will deploy to foreign territories at some point in their career, and they will need to know how to properly dress for the climate.
Divisions Between Uniforms
There are many different varieties of uniforms that all serve different aspects of the military. They all have unique uses and abilities. There are uniforms for winter and summer and some for business attire, dress attire, and all-around utility. There are also uniforms for all occasions, known as camouflage or fatigues. Every uniform mentioned has different characteristics that make them unique. What they all have in common, however, is that they all come with jackets and the choice between pants and shorts or long sleeves and short sleeves, depending on the weather and season. This way, the service member can always be ready for any weather condition year-round.
Boots for All Weather
The military is knowns for its obsession with boots, but the reason behind this becomes clear when you find yourself trekking across the world. Between covering so much terrain and living such a busy lifestyle, you need something sturdy and comfortable to take care of your feet. Modern combat boots are completely weather-proof, breathe well, and have been ranked as the most comfortable boots that the military has ever seen. With the added Kevlar, mesh, and memory foam padding and improvements to the soles, you can go for miles without feeling any pain.
Cover and Coat
Every uniform comes complete with a cover, jacket, and coat. Some uniforms share certain items, such as coats and hats, but these are some of the most essential military items you can own. Having the proper coverage for your head and torso helps insulate your body in the winter and provides a barrier from the sun’s exposure year-round. These are necessary tools each member should never be without, as they keep them protected from all the natural elements. This could also be why military surplus outlets always do so well in sales because their police, fire, and EMS uniforms are equally as effective against the weather and elements.
It’s easy to see how uniforms can protect one against the elements once we come to understand how and when these uniforms are used. By having all the necessary equipment on hand, service members can ward off most natural weather conditions.
